In our busy lives filled with work or Studies, binge watching TV Shows and Parties, we try to juggle all these in within a 24-hour day. This often takes a toll on our Sleep and Food we eat. We sleep late and then when we wake up realising we just have a few minutes to get to work or class or wherever that we need to rush to, all we care about is getting to that place on time. So, in this rush, we just grab the first thing we see in the refrigerator to eat. But not everything in there can be healthy. So, let us help you by clearly listing out the food items you shouldn’t eat and the ones you should on an empty stomach.
YOU SHOULD NOT EAT:
Any guest who arrives at any of our homes would first make a stop at the sweet shop and pack a kilogram of sweets to get them along. We continue to do this even in these days of Diabetes, where almost every one in ten suffers from this terrible disease. So, sweets are always available at our places and we jump to them in the morning as it fills our stomach and gives us the energy to carry on with the day and lifts our mood as well. But eating food with high levels of sugar in it has a bad effect on our pancreas and might lead to diabetes in the future.
2. Pastries and Puffs
These items are made of all-purpose flour and sugar. They cause gas problems when you eat them on an empty stomach. They might cause constipation as well.
3. Curd or Yogurt or fermented milk products
We have the habit of finishing our meal with Curd or yogurt. But when eaten first thing in the morning, it is not healthy as HCl levels increase and kill the lactic acid bacteria which results in improper absorption of nutrients by our body.
4. Carbonated Drinks
We tend to drink coffee or other drinks with caffeine in the morning to give a head start to our day as we need all the stimulation we can get to start working and finish the mountain of chores and works to be done. But consuming caffeine on an empty stomach is harmful as it reduces the blood supply to the stomach affecting the process of digestion ad also damages the mucous membrane.
5. Citrus Fruits
We know fruits are healthy. But not all of them are fit to be consumed on an empty stomach. Citrus fruits rich in acids when eaten first thing in the morning may cause gastric troubles, ulcers and heartburn.
This fruit is rich in fibre and is usually good for people with constipation troubles. But the rough fibre of this fruit damages the mucous membrane when eaten on an empty stomach.
7. Cucumber and green vegetables
These are very nutritious food. But eating them first thing in the morning can be a very bad idea as they may cause stomach ache, gas troubles and heartburn.
Another fruit you should steer clear of when you wake up. It causes a sharp rise in the levels of magnesium in your blood which might be harmful to the heart.
They are very good appetizers but when eaten on an empty stomach, the tannic acid may cause gastric problems, acidity and ulcers.
10. Spicy Food
Anything that’s spicy boosts acid production in the stomach and inflames the gastric mucosa. You don’t want to spend the rest of your day in the toilet, so stay away from these in the morning.
