Gurmeet Singh, who has been working for the welfare of abandoned patients in Patna, is all set to receive the World Sikh Award in London this year. He has been chosen among the 100 entries received from all around the world in the category “Sikhs in Seva”, by an organization based in London named, The Sikh Directory.
For over 20 years, Mr. Singh has been offering his undivided support to the abandoned patients in Bihar’s biggest government institution, Patna Medical College, and Hospital. He visits them every night in their hospital ward and brings food and medicine for the poor who look at him as their savior.
Mr. Singh is very nervous as the date of his commemoration approaches. Apart from his patients, he is also anxious about his speech as he doesn’t know how to speak English.
It has happened on two occasions that the hospital authorities banned Singh’s entry into the hospital. Thankfully, both times, the incumbent District Magistrates intervened and Singh was allowed to continue his service.
As the world prepares to honor this philanthropist, Mr. Singh only cares about his abandoned friends who, with full stomachs and warm blankets are able to sleep peacefully at night.
