Starbucks has unveiled their 2016 holiday red cups, featuring 13 winter-inspired designs that were created by customers. The designs appear on this year’s red cups, which will be used at over 25,000 Starbucks stores in 75 countries. 1,200 designs were submitted on Instagram in 13 different countries; Starbucks’ marketing team picked 13 designs from six countries.
The new red cups are enchanting and everything you want to sip your Caffè mocha from while wearing your oversize scarf and puffer coat.
The coffee chain faced controversy last year year for their plain red cups, with some social media users criticizing Starbucks for removing their holiday-themed designs. Last week, the chain also released a green cup ahead of Election Day, calling it a “symbol of unity.”
Starbucks global chief marketing officer Sharon Rothstein wrote in a release, “We hope that this year’s red holiday cup designs express the shared spirit of the holidays as told by our customers.” She did not add, “Please don’t hate us this year.”
Thank you for sticking with me on this journey to the red cup. Now, excuse me, I gotta catch ’em all.
